  • Setting the School’s aims and policies;
  • Improving standards of teaching and achievement;
  • Setting the School’s budget plan and monitoring expenditure;
  • Interviewing and appointing staff;
  • Acting as a link between the Local Authority and the School;
  • Drawing up an action plan after an inspection and monitoring the success of the plan.

The Governing Body consists of one Local Authority Governor, three Parent Governors, one Staff Governor, the Head Teacher and five co-opted Governors who are elected for a four year term of office.  The Governing Body meets twice a term as does the ancillary committees: Resources Committee (Formerly Finance & Staffing and Premises, Pupil Welfare and Curriculum Committee. John Ryde

Chair of Governors – Co-Opted Governor

Dr John Ryde

Profile – I have spent most of my working life as a Science Teacher in Somerset and Dorset, so am well acquainted with the workings of schools. In 2005 my wife and I moved to Thailand to work for 6 years as volunteers for a charity supporting people at risk of trafficing on the northern border with Burma. Much of our time in Thailand was spent teaching English to refugee children and other young people. I have been a Governor at Mountjoy since November 2013 and have a passion for seeing young people achieve their full potential and hope that my role as a School Governor will be part of this.
