English is taught throughout the school in line with the National Curriculum.  Recognised schemes are used to deliver Reading and Phonics (Oxford Reading Tree, Jolly Phonics and Synthetic Phonics).  Writing is developed through a topic based curriculum exploring writing our names all the way through to poetry, fiction, non-fiction and functional writing skills.  ‘Write Dance’ is used to enhance childrens fine motor skills and further their writing development.

The development of speaking and listening skills forms a large part of our English curriculum.  We employ a ‘Total Communication Approach’ (signing, objects of reference, symbols, PECS and speech) in order to develop each child’s potential.
